My life experiences have made it easy to be a firm believer in the transformative power of education
As I have become more experienced, I have thoroughly enjoyed spending more time on work that has allowed me to move beyond the idea of helping individual students experience university study as a transformative experience to the point where I am designing programs and educational experiences and system improvements that transform departments, colleges and universities and the students they serve.
My work is supported by my values of teaching people to help themselves, holding people accountable, and empowering them to make decisions. I lead by keeping my attention focused on the overall systems in play, communicating the story of the work we are doing and the needs we have to others, and empowering my colleagues and my staff to work at their best. I believe in the bottom-up exchange of ideas over the top-down distribution of information, and that full collaboration with teammates is the only way to avoid or work through communication problems. I am definitely a person who works best when I'm able to fully engage with the task(s) at hand.
